Updating or editing your visa-compliant expat health insurance documents

Learn when we can update your expat health insurance documents for your visa, including a specific end date, more than 12 months of coverage, or a passport number, and which changes we can't make.

Written by Manon

Expat health insurance documents are already designed to be visa compliant and have been accepted by the authorities thousands of times, so most customers don't need any changes. By default, the visa compliance confirmation letter states 12 months renewable coverage. The authorities accept this for shorter visas and typically also for stays longer than 12 months, because the coverage renews. We only update documents when the authorities have specifically requested it, for example to show a specific end date, a longer coverage period, or a passport number. We send updated documents within 1 business day. We can't add your address to any document or list coverage that your policy doesn't include.

Do I need to update my expat health insurance documents for my visa application?

You don't need to update your expat health insurance documents for a standard visa application. Our documents are already designed to be visa compliant and have been accepted by the authorities thousands of times. By default, your visa compliance confirmation letter states that your coverage is valid for 12 months renewable.

In Italy, this letter is called the "Letter to the Immigration office," and in Hungary, it's called the "Immigration Compliance Letter."

The authorities accept the letter as it is for visas that require 12 months of coverage or less, such as 6 or 9 months. The authorities also typically accept the standard letter for stays longer than 12 months, because "renewable" means your coverage continues after the first 12 months. We only make changes to a document in individual cases where the authorities have specifically requested them.

Can you show a specific end date on my visa compliance confirmation letter?

We can replace the standard "12 months renewable" wording on your visa compliance confirmation letter with a specific end date, but only if the authorities have specifically requested one. The standard wording is visa compliant and is accepted by the authorities, so please confirm with the authorities that they need a fixed end date before you request the change. It helps if you share the letter or email from the authorities when you make your request. We send the updated letter within 1 business day, as a reply to your message. You can contact our support team for more assistance or additional resources.

Can my visa compliance confirmation letter show more than 12 months of coverage?

We can update your visa compliance confirmation letter to show a coverage period longer than 12 months if the standard letter isn't enough for the authorities. The letter states 12 months renewable coverage by default, and the authorities typically accept this even for stays longer than 12 months, because the coverage renews. In some cases, the authorities still ask to see the full coverage period.

For example, the digital nomad visa in Croatia typically lasts 18 months, and the authorities often ask to see 18 months of coverage. Requests for 24 months are rarer.

We can adapt the coverage period to what the authorities request, as long as you're eligible for our expat health insurance for that whole period.

The requirements for evidence depend on the length of the coverage period:

  • Up to 18 months: You don't need to share evidence from the authorities, but sharing their letter or email can still help us with your request.

  • More than 18 months: You need to share evidence that the authorities have requested this coverage period, such as their official list of requirements, or a letter or email from them to you.

This update also applies to the letter's local versions, including the "Letter to the Immigration office" in Italy and the "Immigration Compliance Letter" in Hungary. We send the updated letter within 1 business day, as a reply to your message. You can contact our support team for more assistance or additional resources.

Can you add my passport number to my visa compliance confirmation letter?

We can add your passport number to your visa compliance confirmation letter if the authorities have specifically asked for it. A passport number isn't normally required on this letter, so please confirm with the authorities that they need it for your situation before you request the change. It helps if you share the letter or email from the authorities when you make your request. We send the updated letter within 1 business day, as a reply to your message. You can contact our support team for more assistance or additional resources.

Can my visa compliance confirmation letter list coverage that my expat health insurance doesn't include?

Your visa compliance confirmation letter can only list coverage that your expat health insurance policy actually includes. We can't update any document to show benefits or coverage that your policy doesn't provide. The letter already lists the insurance requirements that your policy meets in your country.

Can I use my expat health insurance documents for address verification?

You can't use your expat health insurance documents for address verification. Your address doesn't appear on any policy documents or receipts, and we can't add it. For address verification, you can use one of these documents instead:

  • Your residence registration

  • A home insurance policy

  • A utility or phone bill

For accounting purposes, you can use your expat health insurance invoices together with your bank's transaction statements.
