Expat health insurance eligibility in Europe

Who's eligible for Expat health insurance in Europe, who isn't covered, and how long you can use it before switching to public health insurance or a long-term insurance.

Written by Manon

Expat health insurance is available in selected European countries to people who've recently relocated and aren't yet eligible for the local public healthcare system, as well as short-stay visitors and part-time residents. It covers you for up to 5 years from your arrival date, after which you need to switch to the local public health insurance system or move to a long-term insurance. People who arrived more than 5 years ago, people aged 75 and over, and professional athletes aren't eligible.
