We recommend our expat health insurance as a great way to get private coverage while you get yourself sorted and settled in the Netherlands.
Here are some important things to know about eligibility for expat health insurance in the Netherlands:
If you’ve recently relocated to the Netherlands and are looking for a temporary health insurance plan, you're eligible for expat health insurance.
If you are job seeking, you can generally stay on expat health insurance. Once you find employment, you are required to switch to statutory Dutch health insurance.
Most people must switch to statutory Dutch health insurance within 4 months of registering in the Netherlands.
If it has been determined that you aren’t required to have Dutch statutory insurance, you can stay on Expat health insurance for up to 5 years from your arrival date in the Netherlands.
If you are a student, you can use expat health insurance for the duration of your studies without having to switch to statutory Dutch health insurance.
Please note that expat health insurance is not a replacement for Dutch statutory health insurance. Failure to be correctly insured could result in a fine. If you are not sure if you must have Dutch health insurance, you can use this tool provided by the Dutch Government to confirm.
